How are aluminum bars and rods produced?

Aluminum bars and rods with different needs have different sizes and mechanical properties. Smart engineers thought of using different ways to produce aluminum bars to meet customers' performance requirements for aluminum bars, which not only improves production efficiency but also saves costs.

Cast aluminum bar

Cast aluminum bars, also called aluminum billets, are generally used as raw materials for extruded aluminum bars rods. They have the advantages of a simple production process, high production efficiency, and low cost.

Process flow:

1. Material preparation, ingredients, and raw material preparation. According to the required aluminum alloy model and alloy composition, calculate the ingredients and prepare raw materials.
2. Smelting: Add raw materials and ingredients into the smelting furnace and heat them to the melting point to completely melt the raw materials.
3. Stir and remove slag. During the smelting process, stir the melt and remove the slag.
4. Sampling spectral analysis, by sampling the melt and conducting spectral analysis to determine whether the composition of the melt meets the requirements.
5. Adjust the composition. According to the spectral analysis results, adjust the composition of the melt.
6. Sample spectral analysis again. After adjusting the composition, sample the melt again for spectral analysis to ensure that the composition is correct.
7. Turn down the furnace after passing the test. If the adjusted melt meets the requirements, pour it into the mold.
8. Refining and degassing: remove impurities and gases from the melt through refining and degassing.
9. Refining and slag removal: perform slag removal on the refined melt.
10. Let it stand for a period of time to allow the ingredients in the melt to fully diffuse.
11. Take samples and inspect the melt again to ensure that its composition is correct.
12. Pour the aluminum water into the casting machine.
13. Casting: solidify the molten aluminum into aluminum rods through a casting machine.

Extruded aluminum bar

Extruded aluminum bars and rods are produced from aluminum billets through an extrusion machine. They are the most commonly used type of aluminum bars and have the characteristics of good mechanical properties, high precision, and good plasticity. It is produced by utilizing the good plasticity of the raw material aluminum bar and working together at a certain temperature through an extruder and a mold of a specific shape.

Process flow:

1. Preparation of raw materials, namely aluminum ingots.
2. Smelting, smelting aluminum ingots into liquid aluminum, and then making aluminum rods through casting and other processes.
3. Pretreatment of cast aluminum rods, including removal of surface oxide layer, cleaning, etc.
4. Heating, heat the pre-treated aluminum rod and put it into the extruder.
5. Extrusion, through the joint action of the extruder and the die, the aluminum rod is deformed into the required shape.
6. Cooling: The extruded product is cooled to solidify its shape.
7. During processing, perform surface treatment on the extruded product, including burr removal, polishing, etc.
8. Testing, quality testing, including testing of size, appearance, mechanical properties, etc.

Commonly used alloys for extruded aluminum bars and rods: 1050, 1060, 2011, 2014, 2017, 2024, 2618, 5052, 5083, 5086, 5454, 5754, 6061, 6063, 6082, 7003, 7022, 7050, 7055, 7075.

Drawing (fine drawing) aluminum bar

Drawn aluminum bars are generally further drawn on the basis of extruded aluminum bars or rods to achieve the required shape and size. The drawing process of aluminum and aluminum alloy products is generally carried out at room temperature, so it is often called cold-drawn aluminum bars.

Process flow:

1. Raw material preparation, usually extruded aluminum rods or cast aluminum bars that have been processed in advance
2. Drawing: Use a drawing machine to draw the extruded aluminum rod multiple times to reach the required diameter and length and strengthen its performance.
3. Saw the aluminum bar to obtain the aluminum bar of the required length.
4. Surface treatment of aluminum bars, such as anodizing or electroplating.
5. Quality inspection

Forged aluminum bar

Forgedaluminum bars are aluminum bars produced by repeatedly forging aluminum alloy raw materials through forging equipment.

There are generally two types of forging: die forging and free end. The specific method to choose for forging aluminum bars depends on the shape and size of the aluminum bar.

Process flow:

1. Raw material preparation, prepare aluminum alloy raw materials according to needs.
2. Forging, the aluminum alloy raw material is put into the forging machine and forged multiple times to make it reach the required size and enhance its performance.
3. Surface treatment, such as peeling, polishing, etc.
4. Testing: Use instruments and equipment to test the forged aluminum rods to see if they meet the required performance.

Extrudable aluminum bar shape

Aluminum extrusion is a plastic processing method. By exerting strong pressure on the aluminum blank placed in the mold cavity, the aluminum blank is forced to undergo directional plastic deformation and is extruded from the die hole of the extrusion die to obtain the desired cross-section shape.
